Charity Proposal on behalf of the Dance Music Community Worldwide
Emergency Relief for the Tohoku Kanto Earthquake
The current situation of the earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear plants is in a way the most severe crisis in the 65 years since World War II.~~ Naoto Kan, Japanese Prime Minister
Current facts- Japan
The official death toll from the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck in Northeastern Japan was raised to 14,435 on Tuesday 26th April, while 11,601 were still missing.
About 130,000 survivors are staying in 2,300 shelters across the country.
At the moment around 152,000 people were in shelters around the country. The combined disasters have managed to completely disrupt the country of Japan and its population of 128 million people.
Water, which is the main element of life in Nippon- is now at serious risk of radiation and contamination (think of showering, drinking, fishing, sanitation). At least 250,000 households in 10 prefectures were without running water.
Unprecedented: Four atomic reactors in dire trouble at once. Four explosions, two fires, and a cloud of nuclear mystery is spreading around our world. At least 48,695 buildings have been completely destroyed, washed away or burnt down.
The nuclear angle of this disaster alone might just be the most unfortunate aspect as the toxic waste radiation is unpredictable, you cannot see, smell or touch it and it reacts differently to all life.
Current activities – Dance Music Community
Many DJs and dance acts worldwide describe Japan as one of their favorite destinations due to their never dying support and warmth.
The dance community is now preparing to head off to their annual Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC 2011), there would be no better time or place than to make something extraordinary happen.
Artists blessed with the gift of influence and ability to explore this world through music are invited to take part and show solidarity by maximizing their potential and give something TRULY SPECIAL back to the world that allows us to live the way we do!
What is Dot Relief?
It is a group of artists and supporters of the dance music community who are asking YOU to compare those factors mentioned above and to make magic happen!!
Red Dot Relief is a call to action across the dance music community in a bid to raise money and spread awareness of the disaster stricken regions of Japan. Spearheaded by Visionquest (Seth Troxler) & Friends alongside Crosstown Rebels and the Tuning Spork Efforts Team are trying to influence others to follow and donate whatever they can to the disaster fund by involving not only artists but the wider community in this cause including event organizers, promoters, club owners, clubbers, agencies, music labels and the supporting press.
How can you help?
If you are an artist…
Help us promote this effort via your social networking websites, mailing lists and most importantly word of mouth (talking has been proven to still be the most effective way to exchange ideas and turn them into reality).
We would then ask you to donate a part of your artist fee from a particular event (to take part in this effort we suggest a minimum donation of 10% of your average fee).
If you are a promoter or venue/club/lounge…
We would like to ask you to allow a team of volunteers to spread fund collection buckets around your venue/party.
Clearly display the Red Dot around your venue to show that you support this effort.
Suggest to your artists and their agents prior to the event participating and donating to the cause (minimum of 10% as previously suggested).
All promotional material related to the event should bear the red dot for this cause to spread awareness about this project and maximize exposure to your audience which is key to making the project more successful.
If you are a label/agency/clubber…
There are many ways of getting involved such as making a direct donation as a business or as a civilian; influence your friends and family to do the same and get involved by helping spread the word via all communication means available to you.
How will our help reach Japan?
Red Dot Relief has teamed up with Japanese Non-Governmental Organization - Peace Boat. The team has vast experience with such projects and has continuous links with this Organization. Peace Boat is a Japan-based international non-governmental and non-profit organization that works to promote peace, human rights, equal and sustainable development and respect for the environment. Peace Boat seeks to create awareness and action based on effecting positive social and political change in the world. It carries out its main activities through a chartered passenger ship that can be sent directly to where aid and support is needed the most.
Music is life and love is the answer.
